In addition, after the death of his own mother, the Potterfs took in John "Clifford" Simons as their only son. He was officially adopted by the Potterfs, but he used both Simons and Potterf at various times until his sudden death in 1926. The Potterfs buried John Clifford with the surname of Potterf, however.
