Nettie Alice Nevin, 87, passed away at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber of natural causes on Sunday, April 30, 2000.

Nettie was born on August 22, 1912 in Cottonwood, Idaho to John Clyde and Etta Mae (Gentry) Farthing. The family moved to Big Timber in the Gibson country of Sweet Grass County on November 4, 1915. Nettie lost her hearing at the age of two and therefore gained her education at the Deaf School in Boulder.

She married Oswald Nicholas Nevin on August 27, 1928 in Big Timber.

Nettie was always cheerful and happy as she touched many lives. She worked as a dishwasher at Freyes Cafe and as a Nurse's Aide at the Pioneer Nursing Home for five years, but most of all she was devoted to her loving family, as the hugs she gave became her trademark.

After the death of her husband Oswald in 1987, Jenny, her hearing dog, became her faithful companion for the rest of her life.

Mom, we love you and will always miss you.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Donald Farthing; sisters, Josephine Ray, Leah Weamer and Georgia Jones.

Nettie is survived by her two sons, Oswald of Cardwell and Robert (Barbara) of Whitehall; three daughters, Sharon (Carl) Mosness of Big Timber, Ellen Jenicek of Couer D'Alene, Idaho and Marilyn (Daryl) Blumhagen of Billings; one brother, John Farthing of Big Timber; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and also Jenny, her hearing dog and companion for 12 years.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Interment followed at the Mountain View Cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
