He is the son of Greenberry Posey (1841-1918) and Mary Jane Harris and is one of eight known children: Amanda, Homer, Oliver, Sally, Ephrim, Rodolphus, Thomas, Unnamed male child.

Death From a Fall
Ephriam Posey, the 15-year-old son of G.B. Posey of Remlap, Blount county, fell from a tall poplar tree in his father's yard on Sunday afternoon and sustained injuries from which he died early Monday morning.
The boy, in company with several other boys, was playing in the yard and Ephraim proposed to climb the tree and shake the flower of the tree from the pod to amuse his companions. No sooner said than done, the boy dexterously climbed to the topmost bough and gave the tree a heavy shake. Suddenly the limb on which he was standing gave way and precipitated him to the ground, almost seventy-five feet below.

Ephraim Posey, the 15-year-old son of G.B. Posey, of Remlap, Blount County, and a nephew of George C. Harris, of this city, fell from a tall poplar tree in his father's yard on Sunday afternoon and sustained injuries from which he died early yesterday morning.
The boy, in company with several other boys, was playing in the yard and Ephraim proposed to climb the tree and shake the flower of the tree from the pod to amuse his companions. No sooner said than done, the boy dexterously climbed to the top-most bough and gave the tree a hearty shake, which accomplished the purpose of his desire much to the delight of the other boys. Suddenly the limb on which he was standing gave way and precipitated him to the ground, almost seventy-five feet below. Mr. Posey, who heard the noise, hastened to the spot and with assistance, removed the injured boy to the house, where medical aid was summoned, but the boy died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning without regaining consciousness.
