Whitey, as he was known to all, was born in Connecticut. His mother died in childbirth when he was about five and he was raised in various foster homes, joining the Marines when he was 17. He fought in the Pacific Asian theater during that war. He was called up for the Korean War and was stationed in Tustin, California. He was married to Shirley and after she arrived in California on Christmas Eve 1950 (or 51) from Rhode Island, decided that was a a great place to live and raise their family. They had five children: Nancy Jean (DOB 2 June 1952), Steven Michael (DOB 10 October 1955), Arlan William (DOB 21 (or 22) Nov 1959), Heidi Marie, (DOB 1 Dec 1960) and Rebecca Joy (DOB 16 January 1966).

He loved animals, kids, cartoons, and riding around on a motorcycle when he could borrow one - he never was able to get his own.
