DAISY MARIE SLAUGHTER AMBRESTER, 94, widow of George W. Ambrester, died June 18, 2009 in Midlothian, VA. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Stover Hughes, daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Tom Cooke; grandchildren, Stover Hughes, Jr. (Brook) and his wife, Shannon, Laura Hughes, Sarah Rhoten and Marc Rhoten; and close friends, David and Sara Margaret Hodge. She was born in Corinth, MS, October 6, 1914, the first child of James W. Slaughter and Daisy Delight Derryberry Slaughter. She worked for the Dr. Pepper bottling plant and managed her husband's photographic studio in Tupelo, MS. In 1957, she adopted two daughters and became a full time mom, a part-time accountant, girl scout leader, Sunday school teacher and garden club member. She was fond of all dogs but especially pugs. She was a member of Huguenot United Methodist Church in Richmond and previously Mount Vernon United Methodist Church of Toano. The family will receive friends, Sunday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd, Richmond, VA, and where funeral services will be held Monday, June 22 at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia.
