I have not located William in any census records, however, his wife and 5 children are listed in the 1880 Winston Co AL census as follows:
Elizabeth Mobley 41 [1839] GA GA GA
James H............18 GA GA GA
John.................13 AL GA GA
Rush.................11 AL GA GA
Robert...............8 AL GA GA
Martha E............5 AL GA GA

It is safe to assume William died between 1875 and 1880.

His wife was Elizabeth Roberts as found in the death records for son, Robert. She was still living in 1900 and stated that she had given birth to 6 children, 5 still living. Robert and Martha were still with her, Rush was listed one household after them. Location for James H is unknown. John was in Arkansas, later in Oklahoma. The majority of census records for his children give his birth location as SC, some as NC, some as GA, 1 in TN and several times they just told the census taker their father was born in the US.

I suspect the 4 children listed on his headstone were the ones who paid for it as John had long left the state.
