DECLARATION FOR WIDOW'S PENSION State of Missouri County of Taney On this tenth day of August, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and eight, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace,within and for the county and state afore said, Bethena Smith ,age 82 years, a resident of Hilda, County of Taney, State of Missouri, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under the provisions of the ACT OF CONGRESS APPROVED APRIL 19, 1908. That she is the widow of George W. R. Smith, who was enrolled under the name George W. R. Smith at Fayetteville, Arkansas, on the 15 day of March, 1863, as a Captain in Co. G. Ist Regiment of Arkansas Inft, and honorably discharged tenth of August 1865, having served ninety days or more during the late
civil war.That she was married under the name of Bethena Bolinger to said soldier at Arora, Madison County, on the 26th day of February,1853, by Rev. Robert Lee, that there was no legal barrier to the marriage; that she had not previously married; that the soldier had been previously married, the soldier's first wife died 1851. I cannot recolict the exact date of soldier's first wife's death but do no that she dead, and that neither she nor said soldier
married otherwise that as state above. That the said soldier died 14 day of July, 1908 at Hilda, Missouri, that she was not divorced from him and that she has notremarried since his death. That the said soldier left the following named children who are now living and under sixteen years of age, to wit: no children to either .That she has not here to fore applied for pension. That he post office address is Hilda, Taney State of Missouri.Bethena Smith Also personally appeared D. C. Kershner residing in Kissee Mills, Missouri; and C. H. McKedy, residing in Hilda, Missouri,persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit,and who being by me duly sworn, say they were present and saw Bethena Smith the claimant, sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her of 17 years and 25 years, respectively,that she is the identical person she represents herself to be,and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
