Grace Fortner Lucas, 93, a long-time Cashmere resident, died Friday morning at a local nursing home following a long Illness. She was born on March 29, 1881, in Bennedict, Kan., was raised in that state and married to Robert L. Fortner on Jan. 2, 1901, at Bennedict. They moved to Cashmere in 1919 where he was a carpenter until his death in 1946.
She also was preceded in death by two sons. Jack, in 1973, and Harry, in 1966. , She was a member of the Christian Church in Kansas and attending the Baptist Church in Cashmere.
Surviving are three sons, Elmer Fortner, Wenatchee, Keith Fortner, Cashmere, and Harold Fortner, Ephrata; a daughter. Opal Campbell, Mossyrock; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Grover and Ebner Evans, and a sister Mary Arbuckle, all of Bennedict , Kan.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday, March 17 in the Cashmere Cemetery with Rev. James Merlin officiating. The Braun Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements..
