Born in the small town of Sternefels, Kingdom of Wurttemberg (now Germany). Immigrated to the U.S. with his mother, arriving on Aug. 15, 1854. Mother Barbara died 22 Mar 1867 in Dayton and is buried in Woodland Cemetery. Second wife was Elizabeth A. Slife Chubb (1841-1927) who later re-married to Kincaid, buried Memorial Park Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
