Elmo Hubert Harris, former Henryetta resident, age 87 died peacefully at home surrounded by his family early Sunday June 14, 2009. Elmo was born September 17, 1921 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to his parents, Bob & Bessie (Eddington) Harris. After graduating from high school, Elmo served his country proudly in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, where he was stationed in Italy as well as many other bases around the world after the war. He married the love of his life, Fern, on February 3, 1946 in Henryetta. They spent almost 58 years together before her death in January 2004. Elmo continued to serve our country In the US Air Force for 23 years before retiring. Upon retirement, Elmo worked as an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base until the mid 1980s. Elmo enjoyed gardening; loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and was an avid OSU Cowboy fan. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 3 brothers; 4 sisters. Funeral Services honoring Elmo's life will be 2:00 PM Thursday June 18, 2009 at Shurden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery with Military Honors.
