Martin Rothrock was the second of six known children of Joseph Rothrock (1785-1868) and Magdalena Knauss Rothrock (1785-1826), who married 15 Oct 1810 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. After Magdalena died, Joseph remarried to Sarah Spach (1795-1866) on 18 Jan 1827 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Joseph and Sarah had an additional six children.
Martin married his second cousin, Elizabeth (Lizzie) A. Rothrock (1822-1866) on 22 Jun 1842 at Edwards County, Illinois. Martin and Lizzie were the parents of eight known children, namely:
1. William Henry Rothrock (1845-1865)
2. Mary Ann Rothrock Brown Ahlfield (1846-1932)
3. Eli Sanford Rothrock (1849-1926)
4. Jonas Rothrock (1851-1937)
5. Sarah Ellen Rothrock Obenchain (1854-1923)
6. Martha L. Rothrock Vanarsdall (1856-1944)
7. Jesse E. Rothrock (1862-???)
8. George Franklin Rothrock (1865-1918)
It is thought that all eight children lived to maturity, though very little is known of the son Jesse E. Rothrock (b. 29 May 1862 at Edwards County, Illinois) who was living with his widowed mother Lizzie, in Edwards County, Illinois in 1880. Was this the Jesse E. Rathrock (sic) (age 67, born Illinois, parents born NC) who was living in a public almshouse at Atlantic County, New Jersey in 1930?
