OBITUARY
MRS. MARY E. MAY IS DEAD
Mrs. Mary E. May, who departed this life Monday, July 22, 1901, was born Feb 5, 1854, being at the time of her death 47 years, 5 months, and 19 days of age.
She was united in marriage to Elijah S. May Oct. 27, 1870. Ten children was the result of this union. Five girls and one boy are yet living. Three girls and one boy preceded their mother to the other world. The two oldest daughters are married and the remaining ones live at home. The youngest boy is but seven years old.
Sister May was baptized into the Church of Christ by Bro. Ingram about 1875. This good woman has been a constant sufferer for nearly four years.
It will be four years this coming September since she first sought the assistance of the doctor for her trouble. During the Spring and Summer of 1899, Dr. I. N. Pressley succeeded in removing three cancers in succession from her breast; but the disease was too deeply seated to be eradicated by medical treatment. So annoying has been her trouble that she has not had a good night's rest for more than three years. Notwithstanding all this excruciating pain she has always bore her affliction with the greatest of Christian fortitude.
Her requests were few and fair. Like all good mothers, she had a deep interest in the welfare of her children, requesting that her husband should give especial care for the younger children, and that the older ones at home should become obedient to the Gospel of our Lord and Savior.
Her husband in speaking of her even temper and good nature said:
"With a companionship of over 30 years I have never seen her thrown so far off her guard that she ever struck one of her children in anger." She often expressed a desire to live long enough to see her youngest child in a home of his own. In fact, she did not want to die and frequently said that this world was good enough for a Christian to live in if they lived a Christian life. She became resigned in the last days of her illness and expressed her willingness to go to a better world. Let us all watch and be ready.
