Marianne MACIKOWSKA was born to Herman MACIKOWSKI and Josephine GAMALSKA in Stronach, Manistee County, Michigan on 25 June 1892. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, in Manistee, Michigan.

Marianne answered the call to a religious vocation early in life by entering the Aspirancy of the Felician Sisters Provicialate in Detroit Michigan, 7 August 1907, at age 14.

From 7 August 1906 to 2 July 1909, she attended the high school courses offered in the community high school and took a "stiff examination" for her Certificate of High School Credit in 1917 from the Catholic University of America, in Washington, DC.

On 2 July 1909, Marianne entered the Postulancy and on 9 July 1911 she was invested in the Felician Habit (garb) and received her religious name, Sister Mary Bogumila (it means "Pleasing to God"); first profession of vows 16 July 1912; final vows 25 August 1918. From 1912 to 1932, she continued her education simultaneously while ministering to students in parochial schools in Illinois and Wisconsin. (Sacred Heart Parish - Cassel, Wisconsin; St. Michael Parish - Berlin, Wisconsin; St. Isadore Parish - Blue Island, Illinois; Holy Family Parish - Oglesby, Illinois) She was also the church organist in the parishes she served.

Sr. Mary Bogumila in her personality and character, lived up to her religious name. She was kind, peaceful, generous with her time, energy and sacrifice. She was dearly loved by her students and their parents, respected and trusted by her superiors, secular and religious.

From 1932 until her death, Sr. Mary Bogumila spent her time in St. Mary Home (Clinic), Manitowoc, Wisconsin, as a tubercular patient. Even in her four years of illness, she willingly cooperated and sought opportunities for service and helping other patients as her strength permitted. She somehow managed enough power to rise from bed for early prayer and morning Mass until the very last three weeks of her life when her super-heroism finally ebbed away and she had to be confined to bed permanently.

As Sr. Mary Bogumila lived, so she died quietly, with prayer upon her lips, peacefully falling asleep in the Lord Whom she had so recently received in the Viaticum and the Annointing of the Sick in His special grace for spiritual strength. She died of tuberculosis on 21 August 1936, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, at age 44, after having lived 27 years in Religious Life of the Felician Sisters Congregation.
