"John C. Dengler, 56, of 249 Martic Heights Drive, Holtwood, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.

Dengler was an art teacher at Meylin Middle School. He retired in January after 30 years.

Dengler was a lifetime member of Pequea Valley Sportsmen's Association, a social member of Pequea Boat Club and a member of Red Star Hunting Camp in Franklin County.

He enjoyed arts and crafts and making flintlock rifles.

He was a 1961 graduate of the former Warwick Union High School and a 1969 graduate of Millersville University. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Born in Lancaster, Dengler was the son of Margaret U. Ditzler Dengler of Lancaster and the late William S. Dengler.

He was married two years in August to Carolyn Schilling Dengler.

Surviving besides his wife and mother are a daughter, Victoria Embry of Conestoga; a son, Christian of Conestoga; a stepson, Jeffrey McCleary of Red Lion; a stepdaughter, Beverly Poland of Airville; three stepgrandchildren, and a brother, William F., married to Sandy Dengler of Norman, Okla."
