VERA DeGROAT Ex-Teacher Passes Away in Hospital
Durhamville -- Mrs. Vera DeGroat, 81, Fish Creek Landing Rd., died early today in a Rome hospital where she had been a patient for the past four weeks.
Mrs. DeGroat was born in the Town of Verona, April 12, 1884, the daughter of S. Edgar and Frances L. Stone Burdick.
A life-long resident of the area, she was a graduate of the Oneida Teachers Seminary, and formerly taught at Higginsville, Wood Creek, Fish Creek Landing and at Columbus School in Rome.
Mrs. DeGroat was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle of Higginsville, and a member of the Democratic Club.
She is survived by her husband, George DeGroat; one son, David, A. Boonville; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Fuller, Durhamville, and Mrs. Harold (Gladys) Lindfield, Topeka, Kas., 15 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren and one niece.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Hoe, 260 Main St., Oneida, with the Rev. Ernest Darling officiating. Interment will be in Grove Cemetery, Higginsville.
