Funeral services for Mr. James Edward "Jimmy" Newman, 80, of Minden, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at Heflin Baptist Church, with Dr. Mike Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery.Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 1.
Newman died on July 30, after a long illness. He loved hunting and fishing and was a member of Heflin Baptist Church. He served in the Navy in WWII as a signalman in the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lenox Walter Newman and Mollie Lillian Shell.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jinks Newman of Minden; two sons, Eugene Scott Newman and wife Margie of Anaheim, Calif., and Monte Newman and wife Johnnia of Minden; and three grandchildren, Eugene Scott Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jessica and James Colby Newman of Minden.
Pallbearers will be Stewart Beatty, Joe Beatty, Richard Noles, Greg Wall, Todd Leake and Ralph Barnes.
