Arthur Burris Mountjoy
Oct. 1, 1934 - June 9, 2009
Arthur Burris Mountjoy, 74, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his home in Cochise County, Ariz. Born in Joplin, Va., to Burris Thornton and Elva Jane Mountjoy, he was one of four children.

At the age of 17 Arthur joined the Navy where he served honorably receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1955, he moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he met and married Rena Farnsworth. While living in Tucson he worked for Hughes Aircraft as an engraver and later joined Local 428 Operating Engineers.

In 1969 he and family moved to Canelo, Ariz., where they lived for six years. In 1975 he moved his family to Sweet, Idaho, where he was employed by Boise Cascade as a carpenter, heavy equipment operator and a millwright. Arthur missed the desert and in 1989 he and Rena moved back to Arizona where he established ABM Development LLC and worked as a contractor until the time of his illness.

Art is survived by wife of 52 years, Rena Mountjoy; children, Laurie Bradley, Tawneen Mountjoy, LaRena Mountjoy and Arthur Lane Mountjoy, who all live in Cochise County; his brother, George Mountjoy and sisters Karen Davis and Loretta Mountjoy who live in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He also is survived by 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held Monday, June 15, 2009, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1000 Taylor Drive in Sierra Vista, followed by interment at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Art was a good and honest man. He was respected and loved by his family and his many friends.
