Obituaries:

DIES OF POISON; FATHER IN FRANCE
Baby Daughter of Jesse Vint Eats Lye for Sugar.

The father in France, a soldier on the west front, the baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Vint, died as the result of eating dust of concentrated lye which the little one-only a little over two years old-thought was sugar.

The mishap occurred about six weeks ago when the family lived 6 miles north of town. Since that time the mother with the child came to Bloomington to live with Vine Vint, who is a brother of the father. The little one has been sick all the time but there was hopes of its recovery until a few days ago.

The father enlisted from this city and has been overseas about a year. He is in the infantry and knew nothing of the dangerous illness of his only child. Mrs. Vint's maiden name was Ethel, daughter of David Barrow of Unionville.

Funeral Sunday at 2 o'clock at Clear Creek, in charge of Rev. Campbell.

CHILD DIES AFTER DRINKING CONCENTRATED LYE

A quantity of concentrated lye which Alice Louise, two-and-a-half-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vine* Vint, North Morton street, drank six weeks ago, resulted in her death at 6 o'clock this morning.

The child was playing about the house when she picked up a can containing the lye and drank it. She became dangerously ill at the time and had suffered great agony since. Death came today as a welcome relief from suffering.

Funeral will be held at Clear Creek tomorrow at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Joseph Campbell.

*The second obituary has the wrong parents listed. Alice was the daughter of Lee and Ethel Vint. Alice and her mother were living at the home of Lee's brother, Vine, when Alice drank the lye. Because of World War I, Lee was serving in the army and was stationed in Europe at the time of his daughter's death.
