Yes, Elijah, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Caudill Pennington had a son Abel. He was a brother to my great-grandmother, Malinda Pennington DeHart. Abel first married Margaret
Bumgardner Wagoner. She had been married to a Henry?? Wagoner and had a daughter Almire "Allie" who married Trigg Carter.
Abel next married Rhodempsia Reynolds from near the Elliott-Carter Co. line.

Yes, she was several years his junior.
But Abel and Margaret had a son William "Willie", and a set of twins that died at birth, or soon after.
Willie Pennington taught in the Louisville school system until his death while still a fairly young man. He is buried on the former Pennington farm on N. Ruin about a mile from where I live. Abel and Rhodempsia "Aunt Demp"
are also buried there. Abel and Rhodempsia had a large number of children.
Rhodempsia had not been previously married and, therefore, had no children prior to her marriage to Abel.
I sure wish you could have read my article "Civil War and Lost Love".
It involved Abel and James Pennington (brothers) and a young woman named Mary Davidson (I am not sure of her last name, right off). She was a daughter of the Mary Nichols, Crockett, maybe Davidson, and later Bumgardner. Abel and Mary were engaged to be married but the Civil War and
Abel's capture and imprisonment caused a long-time seperation with the family probably thinking Abel had died. In the meantime, James had returned from the war and he and Mary struck up a courtship and eventually married.

It was then that Abel and Margaret Bumgardner married.
Yes, there were several Abel Penningtons.
