Sergeant Caves served with the 333rd Bomb
Group, 469th Bomb Squadron at Dalhart, Texas.

While on a training flight, B-17F Flying
Fortress #42-6064 collided with Cabresto Peak,
north of Taos, New Mexico.

Husband of June E. Caves, age 21.

All nine airmen aboard perished.

The men killed were:

2nd Lt. Roy E. Cosgrove, pilot
2nd Lt. Raymond C. Graham
2nd Lt. Jack B. Orlopp
2nd Lt. Henry J. Stumpf
S/Sgt. Roger D. Ashurst
Sgt. Hensell W. Caves, Jr.
Sgt. John F. Keaney
Sgt. Robert J. Kundert
Sgt. Lloyd A. McClanahan
