He married Cecelia Adams and fathered Mary (b. @1861), Anna (b. @1862), Bertha (b. @1864), Thomas G. (b. 05/05/66), Emma (b. @1868), Ella J. (b. 05/03/70, d. 03/15/73), Martha (b. @1873), Joseph B. (b. 12/21/75), Charles Roswell (b. 05/24/78), and Cecelia (b. 07/08/80, d. 10/26/82).

He mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 12 as a private with Co. F, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), promoted to captain soon afterward, promoted to major November 23, and honorably discharged with the regiment July 28, 1863.
Cecelia died in 1862, and he married Susan C. Thomas ca. 1892. Cause of his death is listed as "endocarditis."
