CIVIL WAR VETERAN
He was a well known citizen of this place and a veteran of the Civil War, died at his home on Thursday, forenoon, April 7, 1904.
Mr. Brindle was born and spent almost his whole life in Kishacoquillas Valley ***, and was a man who was very widely known.
He enlisted August 9, 1862 in Co. H 125th Reg, PA Vols. At the battle of Antietam he received a severe wound which unfitted him for active service and he was discharged Nov. 21, 1862.
However, by the summer of 1864 he had regained health and strength and his patriotism and valor prompted him to re-enlist in the service of his country, which he did August 24, 1864. From that time until the end of the war, he was engaged in active service, being present during the pursuit and at the surrender of Gen. lee at Appomattox Court House, April 15, 1865.
Mr. Brindle was present and took an active part in the following battles: South Mountain, Antietam, Cold Harbor, Deep bottom, Weldon Railroad, Petersburg, Hatcher's Run and Five Forks. For courage and gallantry displayed in these battles, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and as such was honorably discharged June 7, 1865.
A few years after the war Mr. Brindle had an operation performed, the physicians removing form his body the bullet which he had received at Antietam.
He leaves to mourn their loss a sorrowing wife, four sons, Adelphus, Edward, Milliard and john, two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Keys, and Mabel. Three sisters, Mrs. Eliza Klein, Mrs. Lydia McClintic, Mrs. Sarah Culbertson and one brother, John.
Funeral services at which a very large number of people were present, were held in the Presbyterian church Sunday morning, conducted by Rev. Greenshields.
He was 62 years, 7 months and 6 days.
Cyrus is the son of Henry and Chestina "Chestie" Brindle.
Very little at this point is known concerning his parents.
