Roger E. "Jergy" Jergenson, 79, of La Crosse, Wis., and formerly of Houston, died on Friday, May 29, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1930, in Houston to Burden and Anna (Johnson) Jergenson. He graduated from Houston High School in 1948 and went to work at Trane Company, where he worked for 43 1/2 years. He was a member of Lodge 21 and retired in 1992.

Roger married Celia Palmquist on June 10, 1949, and they had six children. They later divorced. He married Winnifred Miller on Nov. 12, 1982. He was a part-time farmer for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Winnie; six children, Dan (Lorrie), Terry (Annette), Tim (Sherry), Mary (Harold) Naber, Kathy Young and Mike (Debbie); five stepchildren, Laurie Weber, Kathy Riney, Barbara (Mark) Sloggy, Linda (Tim Snyder) Blakeley and Dan Miller; 20 grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and his mother, Anna.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Milton.

Funeral services were June 3 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Houston, with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Stone Church Cemetery, Houston.

Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent assisted the family with arrangements.
