John Porter Baker, the son of Obidiah and Rachel Baker, was born, Jan. 11, 1852, in Ohio, and departed this life Oct. 5, 1935, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Hancock, near Weatherby. He was 83 years, 8 months and 24 days old.
He came to Missouri when a small boy and had spent his entire life in DeKalb county, with the exception of one year spent in Kansas.
He was united in marriage with Mariah Parker on Feb. 10, 1882. To this union were born four children, John E. Baker and Mrs. Fannie Hancock of Weatherby, Mo.; Mrs. Cleavie Burns, Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Electa Fillebaum of Bison, Okla. His wife preceded him in death August 12, 1932.
He united with the Christian church at Christian Chapel, later moved his membership to the Christian church in Cameron.
Funeral services were held at Christian Chapel Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. J. W. Pearson. Burial was made in the cemetery there.
