R. H. "Bob" Adkins, 95, of Hamlin, WV., died Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at his residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Hamlin Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with burial in Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation was Wednesday, October 13, 1999 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Koontz Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr Adkins was born on October 27, 1903 in Ferrellsburg, WV, the son of the late Albert G. & Brooke Dingess Adkins. Mr Adkins was an active member of the Hamlin Baptist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee. He was the retired Chairman of the Board of Directors of the former Lincoln National Bank. Mr Adkins was the lifelong owner and manager of R. H. Adkins and Companies in Hamlin. He began his oil and gas career in 1927 and remained active in the oil and gas industry until his death. In 1980, he received the prestigious Yellow Dog Award at the Eastern Oil and Gas Equipment Show. In 1984, he was chosen as the West Virginia Oil and Gas Man of the Year. These two awards recognize Mr. Adkins lifetime contribution to the industry he loved. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Royal Order of the Jesters. Mr Adkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Madge Hager Adkins; a son Hale Pierman Adkins; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Wilhelm and Ruby Lucille Miller. He is surivied by his wife of 27 years, Rena Adkins; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen Adkins Hooser and Ronald L Hooser; three grandchildren, Catherine Hooser White, Martha Hooser Powell and Ronald Henderson Hooser; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special niece and nephew, Robert Henderson Wilhelm and Sonja Wilhelm Shulimson; a special cousin, Madge Sowards; many wonderful cargivers; and a loyal and loving staff. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to either the Hamlin Baptist Church, 3138 Sycamore Street, Hamliin, WV 25523 or the Robert Henderson Adkins Scholarship in care of the Marshall University Foundation, 400 Hal Greer Boulevard, Huntington, WFV 25755. Pallbearers were Robert W. Walker, Tim Hauldren, Jack Stevens, Senator Lloyd Jackson, Brandon Prichard, George Sowards, Jim Cox, Dr. Robert Walker, Arthur Chaney and Russell Elkins.
