Donald M. Bush, 84, Orleans, died Friday August 15, 2008, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.

Born Feb. 19, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of George W. and Nellie Wes (Love) Bush.

He attended school in Mitchell and joined the United States Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He suffered a broken back, while serving in Guam and after six moths of recuperation, he returned to active duty in Pearl Harbor.

He married Adren Louisa "Lou" Pridemore on March 21, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2002.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna and David Conley and Judy and Vencil Crews; and one son, William Scott Bush, all of Orleans; four grandchildren, Donald and Dana Conley of Hagerstown, Md., Deetra and Bobby Busick and Davona and Tab Street, all of Orleans, and Jeremy Scott Brown of Bloomington; eight great-grandchildren, Danielle, David, Donna Jo, and Destiny Conley of Hagerstown, Md., Hope and Linza Busick and Haley and Tavin Street, all of Orleans; two sisters, Marcia Pruett and Mildred Ruth Reynolds, both of Mitchell; and a good family friend, Dennis Rumple of Orleans.

After Mr. Bush returned home from the service, he began working at Holmes Hardware in Mitchell and then went to Allison Motors in Bedford (now GM Powertrain). While working, he began classes at Indiana University and graduated from the School of Business in 1953. He then worked at Roberts Brass and then for Prudential Insurance Company.

He began teaching fifth grade at Springs Valley Schools, then sixth grade at Mitchell. In 1965, he earned his Masters Degree from Indiana University, School of Education, and began as principal at the Huron School and later was co-principal at the new Burris School in Mitchell. In 1981, he was principal of Huron and Hatfield Schools.

He retired from the Mitchell Schools in 1987. He was then Director of the Senior Games and Latch Key "Safer" programs with Hoosier Uplands. He was a member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228, the Mitchell American Legion, Cecil Martin Post No. 250, and the Mitchell VFW, Marvin Davis Post No. 9107. He was a life member of the DAV in Mitchell and the Mitchell Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. He attended the Bethel Community Church in Orleans.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Brother David Conley and Brother Donald Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Community Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mitchell American Legion.
