Rev. Joseph Reeder King was the son of George Washington and Catharine Sarah (Bartholomew) King. Julia Ann (Hewitt) King was his 1st wife. They were married April 1, 1861. Julia died December 31, 1875. Augusta Anna (Ward) King was his 2nd wife. They were married December 22, 1880. Augusta died November 6, 1915. Rev. King was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church.

KING.--At a camp meeting on Jersey Shore Circuit in August 1848, Joseph was converted and immediately united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Newberry. Ten years later he was called of God to preach, being licensed by Presiding Elder James Sanks and sent to Caledonia Circuit. At the ensuing session of East Baltimore Conference, March 1869, he entered the itinerant ranks on probation, and was appointed to the same circuit. Bishop Simpson ordained him Deacon March 11, 1861, and Bishop Scott ordained him Elder March 8, 1863.
