John "Jack" R.D. Waller lost his battle with cancer June 5, 2009. Jack was born in Palisade, Colorado to Alma Kimminau and James Waller. He went to elementary school at the Canyon Creek Little Red School House. He graduated from New Castle High in 1946. He was a football and basket ball athlete for the New Castle Tigers. When he turned eighteen he enlisted in the US Army. He served from June 26, 1946 to January 19, 1948 and reenlisted September 27, 1950. He was a Paratrooper in the 11th. Airborne, and a MP and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant, October 2, 1953. He worked as a guard at the Climax Mine, and was an insurance agent for New York Life in the Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction Area. His true passion was being an avid hunter and an excellent fisherman. Jack spent many hunting seasons at the Rock N Pine Ranch and at the Red Table Mesa hunting camp. Home is the Hunter. He married Lois Bair Duffy, December 8, 1954 and they divorced in 1969. Jack is survived by two sisters Mary Lucille Nanna of Grand Junction and Carole (Larry) Donnelly of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. He is also survived by four children, John Patrick Waller of Glenwood Springs, Neva (Steve) Hiscock of Silt, Beth Burt of Riverton, Utah and David (Theresa) Waller of Basalt and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his son Michael Waller. Cremation has taken place. He will be honored by the Grand Valley Combination Honor Guard at the Grand Junction Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Thursday, 3 p.m., June 11th. 2009. The family has requested that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Grand Valley Combination Honor Guard or a charity of your choice.
