Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Nelson was born Dec. 26, 1946, in Weatherford. He proudly served in the Marines and fought in the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of North Texas State University and had a long career working in professional sales. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley and spending time with his family and friends, preferably outdoors and in the country.
Nelson was preceded in death by his sister, Lona Nan Thompson, and his parents, Rex and Lona Nelms.
Survivors: Wife of 42 years, Sharon; son, Christopher Nelson Johnson and wife, Cheryl; grandaughter, Rebecca Lynn Johnson of Center Point; brother, Marvin Emmitt Nelms of Hurst; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
