In 1942 the family moved to Bremerton, Washington, for a year, and then back to Albion, where she started school. In 1947 the family moved to a farm near Atlantic, Iowa, where she continued her education and graduated from Atlantic High School. She then worked in Omaha, Nebraska, until her marriage.
