JAMES E. Gardiner, was born in Mariatown, Canada, September 1840, came to Stevens Point, Wisconsin in 1852. Passed away at the County Farm at Amherst Junction, Wisconsin. He had been in poor health a long time,
contributing factors. Pneumonia, ill a few days. He had been at the farm since fall, having applied to go there on account of his physical condition.

His wife was Sarah Housten/Houten Gardiner, was born about 1847, the daughter of Franklin, died 1895 and is buried in the Forest Cemetery. A sister, Mrs. A. F. Redfield and a brother, William survive her. James and Sarah Gardiner's children: Mary Caroline, Eva, Jesse, Frank and a Babe, born February 1880. Sara A., Jessie A., Florence E. Gardiner were all members of the First Presbyterian Church in the City. James died, 9 May 1914
