Thomas served in Cocke's Arkansas Infantry Regiment Company H. He was wounded during the Battle of Prairie Grove 7 Dec 1862. He died of his wounds at home in Hindsville 30 Dec 1862. He left behind a wife Susan Caroline (Seitz) Whiteley, daughter of Lawson and Susanna (Whitener) Seitz, and a young son Charles Lawson Whiteley.
