Skeeters
HOUSTON — Graveside services for Lottie Rae (Caffey) Skeeters, 90, were held at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston on Thursday, April 30, 2009, with Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale and Pastor Larry Emerson of Spring officiating.
Mrs. Skeeters died Monday, April 27, in Houston.
She was born to Jan. 19, 1919, in Millertown.
Throughout her childhood in the farming community of the Rockdale area, she attended school in the Salty community, Rockdale and Tanglewood schools.
Mrs. Skeeters was a self-taught piano player and used her talent to play in many church revivals and services over the years.
She married Charles Banning Skeeters on July 26, 1941.
They enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage before Charlie died in 2000.
They first settled in Eagle Lake, then Crosby and Highland, but in 1950 they moved to Recreations Acres Farms in northwest Houston where they had been attending church. They remained and served the community for the rest of their lives.
At Recreation Acres Full Gospel church, Mrs. Skeeters was involved in ladies groups, singing, playing piano and teaching Sunday School. She had a passion for teaching the Word of God to youth to help strengthen their foundation in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Banning Skeeters; her father, Oscar Caffey; her mother, Ivye Harris; three brothers, Oscar and Curtis Caffey, and Wayne Roberts; and a great-grandson, Adam James Fleener.
Survivors are her son; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two sisters-in-law; also, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
