Anna Elizabeth Dunavin

MOLINE - Anna Elizabeth (Anna Bess) Dunavin died peacefully at home surrounded by her entire family March 9, 2007.

Anna Bess was born on December 3, 1917, the third child of Harry H. Wehman and Ella McMahon Wehman. Determined to become a teacher, she attended the University of Chicago, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1939. Anna Bess enjoyed a long teaching career, including fifteen years at Sacred Heart Seton School.

Anna Bess and Ephraim Henry Dunavin were married in 1942, and celebrated almost 60 years of marriage. Together they raised five children and enjoyed ten grandchildren. Eph and Anna Bess traveled all over the United States visiting sites, relatives and friends.

Anna Bess was an avid gardener, voracious reader, and life-long Cubs fan. She loved bridge and was a competitive tennis player who could defeat her grandchildren into her 70's. She and Eph were members of Sacred Heart Church for more than sixty years and were active in the parish.

Anna Bess was beloved by family, friends, neighbors, students and all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eph, her sister, Frances Kasenberg, and her brother, John "Jack" Wehman.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Meadows (Larry), Margaret Witt (Richard), Elizabeth Blackwell (Jeff), Teresa Armes (Les), and River Dunavin (who she called "Dan"); her grandchildren, Christine Meadows, Mark Meadows, Molly Meadows (Jason Daywitt), Tony Armes (Audrie), Ted Witt, Lisa Hansen (Devin), Becky Bethards (Jared), Aaron Armes (Melissa LeMaster), Angela Armes (Marc Middleton), and Stephanie Blackwell; her great-grandchildren, Ainja and Chloe Hansen, and Patrick Armes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, on Sunday, March 11, 2007, from 2 to 4 p.m. with rosary to follow. Funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Moline on Monday, March 12, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Seton School.
