Mr. Wm. Hicks died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. Alcorn. He lived to the old age of 96. He was a kind and good man and has left many to mourn . May God's blessing rest upon them and guide them in their father's pathway. He was interred in the old family burying ground near this place.

==================================

Clarinda Alcorn Hicks , the daughter listed above lived at High Bridge on the Mercer County, KY side , close to the Old Shaker Landing .
======================================
William Hicks had married Elizabeth Pall / Paul in 1837 in Jessamine County - At least 2 other Paul women had married into the Hicks family around this time

( her brother Dorel Paul signed for consent of this marriage - Dorel Paul would marry Nancy Stipe in 1840 in Mercer County - He later moved to Indiana and lastly to Newton Co, Missouri where he died - It appears the Paul & Dorel families were in early Mercer & Garrard and Marion county areas in KY ) Another brother , Jacob Paul also lived in Marion County and probably died there about 1869 - Through his 4th and last marriage he states the place of birth and residence of the father John Paul . There were at least 3 different Paul families who married in Jessamine before ca/ 1855 - Our Paul family apparently lived in Grayson County , Ky in 1810 & 1820 , also being in Warren & Logan counties before that . Our John Paul apparently owned no land etc and only appears on tax lists of the time . Mary Paul who died about 1849 was probably his widow and the mother of at least some of his children.

============================
Elizabeth died after 1880 but we have no proof as to the date or place of burial for her. Some have listed a place of burial as the Hicks- Alcorn Cemetery at High Bridge , but there is no such place at Highbridge, KY
William Hicks was a son of Jno Hicks & Elizabeth Preston
