Sue graduated from Seoul Foreign School in 1978. She later attended Northwest College in Kirkland, Washington, and graduated with a BA degree in Christian Education. Upon graduating she accepted a job in Anchorage, Alaska where she met and married her husband Ray in 1986. The couple moved to Washington State in 1989, living in Chehalis, Tenino, and finally settling in Galvin.
One of Susan's greatest joys was fulfilling her calling as a wife and a stay at home mother to her three children Lindsey, Phillip and Aaron. She loved attending her children's sporting activities and musical performances. Family camping trips to Lake Kachess were a highlight each summer and tubing at Paradise each winter because they were a time for the family to enjoy each other and the outdoors. Sue was a city girl from Seoul who found she loved this transition to small town life, camping, fishing and hiking. Some things never changed, though. She loved family get-togethers on both sides of the family, and she loved her church family. This last year she was especially blessed and touched by the outpouring of love and service to her and her family.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Ray, her three children Lindsey, Phillip and Aaron, her mother Linda Butterfield of Salem, OR, her three sisters Anne (Steve) Young of Monterey, CA, Liz Butterfield of Salem, OR, and Lori (Craig) Glass of Cary, NC. She loved all of her in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 am at Centralia Community Church at 3320 Borst Avenue, Centralia, followed by a family graveside service that afternoon at Mountain View Cemetery near Poulsbo, Washington. Memorials may be made to Care Center of Lewis County, where Sue had volunteered in the past.
