Bernice Ann "Bessie" was the daughter of James Larkin "Jim" and Laura Lee (Brinlee) Arrington. She was the granddaughter of Hiram Carroll Brinlee and Diza Caroline Boone Brinlee.
Bessie married Joseph Benjamin "Joe" Hemphill in 1919 in Collin County, Texas. They first made their home in Westminster, Collin County, Texas, and Joe worked as a farm laborer. They were a few houses up from cousins William C and Nannie Lee Brinlee.
The couple were the parents of Doyle Ray, James E, Betty Jean (Mrs. Ralph Joseph Sheets)and Buddy Joe. They must have divorced some time after 1940, because Bessie's surname was Sterner on her death certificate.
Bernice died of an apparent homicide at her home on 411 S. Henderson street, having sustained four gun shot wounds to the back of the head. She had worked as a saleslady.
Bernice was the 3xgreat-granddaughter of the famous explorer Colonel Daniel Boone.
