1941: Kamiah Progres (6 Mar 1941): Passing of Jim Davis Removes Early Kamiah Resident: James Gordon Davis, one of the first settlers of Kamiah valley, passed away at his home in the village Saturday night, following an illness and decline in health of several months. He had just passed his 80th birtthday last month. Deceased was born in Gentry county, Mo., February 12, 1861. When he was a young man he came west, locating in Moscow in 1886, and there married Mary Elizabeth Maguire, July 1, 1888. In September, 1896, the couple came to Kamiah, making the trip in a covered wagon, being one of the first white families to locate here. They lived on the place until last year, when declining helath of both prompted them to move to town to reside. Surviving deceased are his widow; four children: Jesse E. and Charles E. of Kamiah; Carrie Irene McD--rmed and Mary Josephine Hall, of Kelso, Wn; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also two sisters: Mrs. Alice O'Neil of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Martha Lane of St. Louis, Mo. The funeral was held at Community church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Kamiah Funeral Home, with Rev. Albright preaching the sermon. Burial was in the local cemetery.
