He and Adeline Lake Singleton are the parents of Joseph, Billie, Martha and Rebecca Blackshear. Martha served as cashier in the business office of Oxford College for many years (1952-late 1960s). Billie was a trained nurse and served as a nutritionist at Newton General Hospital for a long time. Robert and Rebecca Blackshear served a Presbyterian ministry in New York State until retirement in the early 1960s.
