Demarcus D. "Marcus" was born in Fayette Co, KY to Reuben Kent and Rebecca Brink Pollard. He married Mary Ann "Polly" Baker on January 25, 1849 in Boone Co, MO. From this union were born nine known children: John Hybert, James W, Charles L, Silvana E, Luther A, Idella, Greenberry Lafayette, Reuben M and Henry Emmet.

Marcus, brother James Perry and brother-in-law Dr. Schooling went to the California Gold Rush.

DEATH: Item in Newspaper: June 21, 1850 Columbia Mo Statesman:

"We learn from Mr. Pollard of this county, who reached home from Calif on Sat last that Dr. W.L. Schooling died in that country on the 14th Apr. Mr. Pollard started home on the 1st May, leaving the rest of the immigrants from Boone in good health--all of them doing very well. (Marcus & James P. both went to Calif with Dr. Schooling, so one of them would be the Mr. Pollard they refer to.) Ref: The research of Betty Morris on the Pollard family.

OBITUARY: from the Huntsville Herald:
"Uncle" Mark Pollard one of the old-timers of this community, died of Bright's disease at his home, one mile south of town, December 14. The ranks of those who turned the "bluestem" with oxen and wooded moulboard plow and blazed trails through the trackless forests are becoming very thin, and only a few more years shall roll until reminiscences (their spelling) of the times when "the frontier was here" may be had only from books. Mr. Pollard was member of the M. E. Church and was well liked by all who knew him. His remains were laid to rest in the Pisgah burying ground. Revs. Bone and Dr. Robinson officiating at the funeral services.

OBITUARY: from the Clark Chronicle:
Mr. Marcus Pollard age 81 years and one of Prairie townships most respected citizen died at his home near town Thursday morning at 10 after a short illness. Mr. Pollard had been a citizen of Randolph County for many years, and was one of her first settlers. He was a good honest Christian man and a man who was loved and respected by everyone. The funeral services were conducted at the Pisgah church Friday afternoon by Bro. Bone assisted by Rev. J. K. Robinson after which the remains were laid to rest in the Pisgah burying ground to await the final summons of its master. To the wife sons and brothers and host of other relatives the Chronicle extends to them our sincere sympathy and condolence. May this good man's soul rest in peace.
