Jacob Haddox descends from an old Virginia mercantile family who later settled in McComb, Hancock Co., Ohio. After a brief stay in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was a merchant and a hotel proprietor during the 1880's in Payne, Paulding Co., Ohio.

Jacob married his first wife Elizabeth Smith Dec. 26, 1855. Mother of:
