A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 from First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Born in Cheraw, Mrs. Chestnut was a daughter of James Bayard Sr. and Roxana Nathalie Burch Brasington, and was the widow of Leon Chestnut Sr. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Carrie Hatchell Sunday school Class.
Surviving are two sons, Leon "Lee" (Nancy) Chestnut Jr. and James "Jim" (Judy) Chestnut of Cheraw; a daughter, Mary Helen (Boyce) Mabry of Rock Hill; four brothers, Eugene (Irene) Brasington, Henry (Mondell) Brasington and J.B. Brasington Jr. of Cheraw, and Bobby (Mavis) Brasington of Princeton, N.C.; a sister, Eunice (Jerry) Hinson of Cheraw; seven grandchildren, Michelle C. (David) Rohde, Jason J. (Elizabeth) Chestnut, Brooke C. Bowman, Bryan (Ginger) Chestnut, Shannon M. (Richard) Jacobs, Shane (Paula) Mabry and Clay Mabry; and 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor Chestnut, Cole Chestnut, Jacob Rohde, Bryanna Chestnut, Courtney Chestnut, Storm Jacobs, Bailey Jacobs, Madison Jacobs, Cruise Jacobs and Haley Mabry.
She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, James Brasington and Paul Brasington, and a grandson-in-law, Richard Bowman.
