Alfred T. Allen was born January 22, 1830 to Amasa & Susannah Farrington Allen in Milford, New York. He married Elizabeth Cordelia Hart, daughter of Jacob and Betsy Baum Hart on May 15, 1855 in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.

They were the parents of nine children, 7 girls and 2 boys. Nellie F. Allen, Floyd Dayton Allen, Libby E. Allen, Helena May Allen, Nettie Eva Allen, Belle H. Allen, Gertrude F. Allen, Edson F. Allen, and Amy I. Allen.

Alfred passed away February 24, 1897 in Savannah, Wayne County, New York and is buried in the Butler-Savannah Cemetery
