Dye, Isaac Newton Dye
Spirit of Democracy, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, October 7, 1848
Died—On Friday, the 29th ult., ISAAC NEWTON, son of John L. and Sarah Jane Dye, aged 1 year, 9 months and 11 days.
As vernal flowers that scent the morn,
But wither in the rising day,
Thus was this infant's lovely dawn—
Thus swiftly fled his life away.
He died before his infant soul
Had ever burned with wrong desires—
Had ever spurned at heaven's control,
Or ever quenched its sacred fires.
He died to sin, he died to care—
But for a moment felt the rod;
Then rising on the view less air,
Spread his light wings and soared to God.
And thus shall faith's consoling power
The tears of love restrain;
O who that saw thy parting hour,
Could wish thee back again.
Triumphant in thy closing eye,
The hope of glory shone;
Joy breathed in thy expiring sigh—
We felt the pang alone.
