Philomena Mills, 94, formerly of 1612 Ford St., a resident of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, died Tuesday at Claxton- Hepburn Medical Center.
Mrs. Mills had worked for the Newell family, the Ogdensburg Silk Mill, at the state hospital store and at J.J. Newberry department store.
From 1952 to 1993, she and her husband owned and operated The Place, a neighborhood restaurant and bar on Ford Street.
Born May 26, 1908, in Ogdensburg, daughter of George and Georgianna Brabant Robillard , she attended area schools.
She married James Mills on June 25, 1931, at Notre Dame Church with the Rev. A.D. Charbonneau officiating. Mr. Mills died in 1991.
Mrs. Mills was a member of Ogdensburg Professional Women's Club and was known for her cooking skills.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, a niece and three nephews (whom she raised as her own children after the death of their mother) and their spouses, two sisters, 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A son, James Mills Jr., died at birth. Two sisters, Lillian Massia and Marguerite Rebideau, three brothers, Adrian, John and George Robillard, and a grandson also died before her.
A funeral Mass was said Friday at Notre Dame Church with the Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial was to be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Arrangements were with Frary Funeral Home.
