MRS. J. S. MEALY IS DEAD
END COMES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER HERE TODAY
Carthage Woman, 74, Had Lived Here More Than 40 Years - Five Children Survive
Mrs. Cinderella Mealy, widow of John S. Mealy of Carthage, died at 7:10 this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arch Thornton, 308 West Second street. She had been bedfast since January and critically ill for several weeks. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. Mrs. Mealy was 74 years old.
Mrs. Mealy had been a resident of Carthage more than 40 years. The family moved here in 1879. Mrs. Mealy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana February 21, 1847. She was married November 13, 1864 at Huntington, Indiana. Her maiden name was Miss Cinderella Foster Rhoads. She was a sister of Dr. August Rhoads of Carthage, who has been dead some years.
Mr. Mealy died seven years ago. He had been elected justice of the peace here shortly before his health failed. Previous to that time he had held positions as probate court clerk and journal clerk in the state senate.
Five children survive. They are: Mrs. Thornton, Mrs. Clarence Baker of Okmulgee, OK., who has been at her mother's bedside for five weeks, Mrs. W. C. Robbins of Okmulgee, OK., O. R. Mealy of Carthage and E. W. Mealy of Muskogee, OK. All of the children are expected to be here for the funeral except Mrs. Robbins, who will be unable to attend.
Mrs. Mealy was a member of the Christian church.
Funeral services will be held at the Thornton home probably Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
