Joseph Barrett, 75, 241 North Comstock street, lifelong resident of Wabash county, died in the Wabash County hospital Sunday morning at 11:10 o'clock after being ill since last July. Death was due to heart disease.
Mr. Barrett was a city policeman for about five years starting in 1930 and he later was named park custodian until about two years ago. He also was a member of the Modern Woodmen organization.
He was born in Wabash county on May 17, 1872, the son of Stephen and Mahala (Slagal) Barrett. He resided in this city for the last 50 years.
On Oct. 20, 1895, he was married in Wabash by the late Dr. Charles Little to Mary Ellen Haupert who surivives. Additional survivors include two sons, Ralph A., and Hubert E. Barrett of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Croke, Anderson, and Mrs. Clem Purdy, Wabash; two brothers, Everett Barrett, Detroit, and Raymond A. Barrett, Wabash and 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Three children preceded him in death.
The body was taken to the Jones Funeral home where friends may call and where services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. #Burial will be in Falls cemetery.
