Cherokee Daily Times - Wednesday , July 24th, 1929 - Almost daily we are reminded that death is in our land and community. The sacred precincts of our homes are visited and there is no respect of persons. Too often, as it seems to us, the one who can not well be spared is taken. That has happened in the call of a loving mother, in the person of Mrs. Olive Wolverton whose life of love and service for her daughter, Leta, has been cut short.

Mrs. Wolverton before her marriage bore the name of Olive Butterfield and she was born in Madison county, Iowa, April 25, 1868, where she continued to live until in her girlhood she moved to Cherokee county, where she has lived until death, on Sunday morning, July 21, at 10 a.m., at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 26 days.

The marriage of the deceased to Alvah Wolverton occurred on March 22, 1898. To this union two children were born: Kenneth, who died June 22, 1923, and Leta, who is the only surviving member of the immediate family, the husband and father having also passed away on January 7, 1925. Mrs. Wolverton is also survived by one sister, Mrs. J.A. Payne of Milnor, N.D. and 2 brothers: Benj Butterfield of Aurelia and Walter Scott Butterfield of Washington, who with Leta, today are mourning the loss of their loved one in death.

Mrs. Wolverton has suffered from the dread disease of cancer for more than four years. In spite of her suffering and under a great inconvenience she worked hard for the support of herself and her beloved daughter, even beyond her strength and after she was unable to do so. Hers was the finest demonstration of a mother's love that was willing to lay down her life for the one she loved. Only God will ever know of the sacrifice of this mother for her daughter, which has not been in vain, nor unappreciated by her loved one.

Besides doing this she was a supporter of the church in a sum above her ability, a sum that ought to put more able givers to shame. The deceased had been a member of the Church of Christ since before her marriage, having first united with the church at Meriden.

She died in the faith, clinging to the precious promises of holy writ and in the face of her own departure, like the Christ who remembered the needs of his mother in the hour of his departure, this good mother made as her dying request of the church and its pastor, "take good care of my girl." So there is committed to us as members of the the Church of Christ this sacred commission,

Funeral services were held and interment was made in the cemetery at Meriden.
