SOUTH BEND - Ruth A. Scott, 97, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Exeter, NH. She was born in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Cromer) Aucutt. Mrs. Scott is the widow of Robert W. Scott, to whom she was married for 49 years.
She graduated from Chicago Normal School of Education. She taught physical education in the schools and had her own dance studio. Mrs. Scott and her husband resided in South Bend for many years where she was active in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, volunteered for the Red Cross and Memorial Hospital. She also served as president of the Hearing and Speech Auxiliary.
At the age of 88 she moved to Exeter, NH, and continued her active lifestyle by volunteering at Riverwoods where she lived and taught line-dancing classes. She also enjoyed playing in the Hand Bell Choir at the Congregational Church in Exeter. She worked at Synergy Health and Fitness and gave tours as well as attending aerobics class. Her spirit and enthusiasm for life will always be remembered.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jones, and her husband, Dan Jones of Exeter, and Carolyn Scheer and her partner, Russ Williams of Mesa, AZ. She was always proud of her three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Kelly Scheer Gasior and her husband, Len, and their son, Gavin; Scott Jones and his wife, Alix, and their daughters, Lucy and Sarah; and Nate Jones and his wife, Jenn, and their daughter, Ada Ruth.
