Our mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, Shirley Howard Cannon, passed away peacefully from heart failure on May 29, 2009. She resided at 8570 South Six Shooter Circle (2135 East) in Sandy, Utah at the time of her death.
She was born May 18, 1931 in Taft, California to Charles John and Leona Michael Fortna Howard.
After graduating from Hartnell Junior College in Salinas, California she married J. Parry Cannon on December 9, 1951 in Dos Palos, California. Parry passed away in May 1993.
Shirley loved to travel, make quilts, read, do genealogy, and she loved spending time with her friends and family.
She was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was an active member of the Willow Creek First Ward, serving as librarian and family history consultant.
Shirley is survived by children Janet (Rick) Dubois, (Littleton, Colorado); Lisa (Frederick) Albright (Salt Lake City), and David Cannon (Pamela) (Cairo, Egypt), and by brother Stanley Howard (Alabama), 10 grandchildren Benjamin Dubois (Kim), Seth Dubois (Andi), Monica (Nate) Stahlecker, Matthew Dubois, Jason and Lucas Albright; Sarah, Sandra, Cody, and Kristina Cannon; and four great-grandchildren Liam and Eliza Dubois and Tyson and Michael Stahlecker. She was preceded in death by grandson Graham Cannon and by husband Parry.
A viewing will be held at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Boulevard (7600 South), on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Sublette Chapel in Sandy (2115 Sublette Place) on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may visit from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Church prior to the services.
Interment: Utah Veteran's Memorial Park, Bluffdale, Utah.
